Updates All Around for Christmas!

by Thomas Griffin on December 17, 2013

Phew – I have been one busy dude this year (and especially the past few weeks)! On top of launching OptinMonster, I have been busy working on something super exciting that will compliment Soliloquy. 😉

In the meantime, I have just pushed out a slew of updates to Soliloquy and the Addons that should make a ton of folks happy! Here’s the skinny:

1. The Crop Addon no longer relies on Timthumb!

This is a big monstrous victory. I have now completely moved away from Timthumb in favor of all native WordPress functions for cropping images on the fly. The image caching is better, and it does a superb job. There is even support for retina images via a filter! The crop addon now works even better than before (and much more reliably). By default, all errors with cropping are suppressed, but if you notice some funny behavior, you can turn on crop debugging by adding this to your theme’s functions.php file:

define( 'SOLILOQUY_CROP_DEBUG', true );

It will fill your screen with useful information about why cropping is not working, such as you needing to ask your webhost to compile the GD or Imagick libraries for PHP.

2. Thumbnails now support cropping!

Another huge win! Thumbnails now support cropping if you have the crop addon installed and activated on the site. It will use the same native functionality to crop images to the size you specify on the fly. This has been one of the most requested features for the thumbnails addon, and I’m pleased to say that this is now available for everyone via the latest updates.

3. The Dynamic Addon now supports thumbnails!

This is another huge update. The Dynamic Addon, one of the most powerful addons for Soliloquy, now supports thumbnails for your dynamically generated sliders. The thumbnails here also support cropping as well, so you can go crazy with all the things you can build with the Dynamic Addon. I have updated the documentation for the Dynamic Addon as well to reference how to add thumbnails to your dynamic sliders. You can get those updates here: https://soliloquywp.com/docs/dynamic-addon/

4. Numerous bug fixes and updates

Almost all of the other addons have been updated to include fixes for WP 3.8 and other bug fixes and improvements. The Filters Addon has been updated to reflect using the new image editing functions to get around it throwing notices for using the old deprecated pre-3.5 image editing functions. Soliloquy has also been updated to reflect WP 3.8 UI styles and provides other bug fixes and performance improvements.

As always, we work hard on being rock-solid on support as well, so just let us know if you have any issues pertaining to the updates so we can get them fixed.

We wish you a very happy holidays and Merry Christmas and can’t wait to see all the sweet things you will do with these updates! 🙂
