Soliloquy 1.4.0 + Featured Content + Examples
For all of those who did not know, Soliloquy 1.4.0 dropped yesterday. To date, Soliloquy 1.4.0 is the most anticipated release, and here’s why:
- It features ajax preloading of slides to make your sliders load super fast
- Both the Gallery and Media Library tabs have now been opened up and can be utilized for inserting images into your sliders
- The new content API is now set so that I can create Addons to make sliders from photo streams like Instagram or Flickr, make HTML only slides, text only slides, video only slides, etc.
- Numerous UI enhancements and performance improvements and fixes
The first two items on the list are the biggest items to highlight. The ajax preloading improves the performance of Soliloquy by at least 50% on the front end, and the difference is even more dramatic the more images you place in your slider.
The Featured Content Addon
This is also the most exciting and requested Addon – the Featured Content Addon. It makes creating featured content sliders an absolute breeze. It gives you the most flexibility to get the types of posts, pages, categories, taxonomies you want in the slider. You can mix and match and all that jazz.
To put it short: the Featured Content Addon makes Soliloquy the best choice for a featured content slider by far.
As with all Addons, only developer license holders get access to them. If you have a single license and want the Featured Content Addon, you can easily upgrade from your Member’s Area dashboard.
Demo Sites
I have begun to create dedicated demo sites to showcase each of the Addons (and Soliloquy itself) so that you can get an idea for how each one works. And not only this – I’ve also made it so that you, the user, can test drive each one of these bad boys out and see the results for yourself! Talk about ultimate product testing before you buy. The main Soliloquy demo is the only one available as of right now, but I am working hard to get the rest of the demo sites up soon too.

The new update is working well, except that you seemed to have added an extra level of indirection around the captions/changed the CSS to be very specific, which broke our local stylings i.e; .soliloquy-container .soliloquy-caption

Ahh, yes I did do that and I completely forgot to make note of it in the changelog and make a post about it on the forums! I’m sorry about that!
The reason behind this is again to try and avoid styling conflicts with 3rd party themes and plugins and also to ensure proper width and height settings for the caption. Without the extra wrapper, the caption background was subject to too much inconsistency, so I added it to provide that consistency with styling.
That is the last of the HTML changes I plan to make for a long time as everything else has been pretty keen on avoiding conflicts. The caption piece was the only area where conflicts seemed to arise pretty frequently, so I needed to go ahead and pull the bandaid off and make that change sooner than later.

I was trying to figure out if this nice slider produce the same effects like Genesis Responsive slider http://www.studiopress.com/plugins/genesis-slider in terms of on-page SEO?
When you feature GRS on your page it shows up with Slide titles as h2 tags and pulls out the slide description as excerpt which is quite good…

Yes, the Featured Content Addon has solid SEO markup and uses h2 tags for post titles in featured content sliders. This coupled with ajax preloading and small JS/CSS files for styling and processing, Soliloquy is definitely the best choice in terms of SEO for a slider plugin.
