How to Create a WordPress Slider for Custom Post Types

Do you want to make sliders for custom post types in WordPress? Sometimes you may need to create sliders from custom post types that you have created. In this article, we will share how to create a WordPress slider for custom post types.

By default, WordPress does not allow you to create image sliders for custom post types. You’ll need to install the Soliloquy slider plugin accomplish this.

To create a WordPress slider for custom post types, you’ll need to follow these 6 steps:

  • Step 1. Install and activate Soliloquy Slider plugin
  • Step 2. Install and activate Soliloquy’s Featured Content Addon
  • Step 3. Add a featured content slider in Soliloquy
  • Step 4. Select your custom post types
  • Step 5. Publish the image slider
  • Step 6. Add the shortcode to a post or page

By the end of this tutorial, you’ll have a slider that looks like this, featuring content from your custom post types:

Step 1: Install and Activate Soliloquy Slider Plugin

First thing you need to do is to install and activate Soliloquy WordPress Slider plugin. You can learn more about how to install Soliloquy here.

Step 2: Install and Activate Featured Content Addon

Upon activation of the plugin, you need to go to Soliloquy » Addons from your WordPress backend. Install and activate the Featured Content Addon.

You must have Developer or Master license to access this addon. For more information, check out this guide on upgrading your license in Soliloquy.

Step 3: Add a Featured Content Slider in Soliloquy

Next you’ll need to add a featured content slider. To add a featured content slider, you can go to Soliloquy » Add New. Then, go to the External Slider tab and select Featured Content.

Step 4: Select your custom post types

Next, select your custom post types that you want to include in your slider. In the Slider tab, you will see the settings to select your custom post type, taxonomy terms and more.

In the Select Your Post Type(s) field, choose the custom post types that you want to include.

Step 5: Publish the Image Slider

Once you are done adding your post types and settings for your WordPress slider, go ahead and click on the Publish button.

You need to copy the shortcode from the Soliloquy Slider Code widget under the Publish widget (you’ll need this for the next step).

Step 6: Add the Image Slider to Post/Page

Simply go to Post » Add New or edit an existing post where you want to add the image slider. In the visual editor, go ahead and paste the shortcode.

Make sure to hit the Update button. Now you have an image slider for your custom post types!
